When you think of a documentary film, probably your first association is something boring and dull. Now, Matangi/Maya/M.I.A is one of those happy exceptions that will make you inevitably change your mind. This is an honest and exciting portray of the Sri Lankan/British artist and musician who continues to brake clichés with her songs and also with her political activity. The film is directed by the long-term friend of the rapper and artist, Steve Loveridge, and follows a story, spanning decades. M.I.A.'s contribution to the film-making process is extremely valuable – she has given materials from her personal archive, which really adds to the authenticity of the tape. Matangi/Maya/M.I.A won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
