The Silent Revolution

The Hungarian Revolution (or Uprising) took place in 1956, in the capital city of Budapest. That was a nationwide revolt against the Marxist-Leninist government, formed by the Hungarian People's Republic which was imposing USSR policies. These dramatic events lasted from 23 October until 10 November 1956. It all began as a student protest, but thousands of disappointed citizens went to march through the center of Budapest to the Parliament, calling out on the streets from a van with loudspeakers. The story in this German drama film revolves around a group of sixth-grade pupils, living in Berlin, who felt that it would be right to support the victims of the Hungarian Revolution. What they did was to simply stay silent for a minute in class. The result was smashing for the kids - the whole class was expelled.
