In every family there are times of crisis. These crises are usually caused by money problems, cheating, illness. However, in this perfectly normal Danish family, the crisis that occurs is not of the usual type. Meet the 11 years old Emma who loves football, just as her father, Thomas, does. But life changes and so does Thomas. What happened to him? Well, he… becomes Agnete. Confessing of being a transgender, Thomas, now Agnete, goes not only through a personal physical transfiguration but is the reason for the doubts and worries his family experiences. It is really difficult for Emma to figure out how to treat him/her after the sex change. After turning into a woman, is Thomas/Agnete technically still her father? Is he/she still into football? Struggling with the many questions that pop up each day, Emma has to find a way to adjust to the new family situation.
" Family movies are typically a little silly and rarely revolve around serious themes. Malou Reymann’s ‘A Perfectly Normal Family’ isn’t that kind of movie. The movie revolves around a family, where the father chooses to come out as transgender and change gender. The movie therefore treats the very current theme, gender identity. The idea behind the movies comes from the director herself and is based on her personal experiences. Malou Reymann have previously directed the short films ’Dem man elsker’, ’13’ and ’Seksten en halv time’, but ’A Perfectly Normal Family’ is her first full length film. The movie will premiere in Danish cinemas on the 20th of February. "
