The Secret Garden

Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel of the same name, this fantasy film follows Mary Lennox, a 10-year-old orphaned girl who makes an extraordinary discovery. Born in India to wealthy but cold parents, she becomes the only survivor of a cholera epidemic. The girl is sent to live with her uncle Archibald in his big Yorkshire house. Upon her arrival, Mary’s attention is attracted by a robin. Later, the robin leads her to a locked, forgotten garden but the little girl finds the old key and opens the gates. It is a beautiful but neglected rose garden, once a favourite place to uncle Archibald’s wife, now dead. The desperate man has a sick son - Colin. Mary and her cousin become good friends and together with Dickon, the 12-year-old brother of the maiden Martha, they revive the deserted place. The more laughter and children play there is in the garden, the more healthier and strong Colin and his new friends grow.
