An Erik Poppe's recreation of the horrible Utøya massacre that took place on 22 July 2011. What happened on this tragic for the Norwegian people date, is that the far-right extremist Anders Breivik murdered mercilessly 69 young people who were enjoying a summer camp on the Norwegian island of Utøya. Moreover, earlier that day he detonated explosives in the government quarter of Oslo, the capital of Norway, which killed eight more people. The film shows the 18-years old Kaja, 12 minutes before the first shot is fired by Breivik. U: July 22 was selected for the main competition section at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival. However, this particular movie prompted a heated debate related to the ethics and true value of recreating contemporary tragic events and terrorists’ attacks with the means of the cinematic art.
