" Interesting and innovating fashion is often rebellious and contra. It comes from the desire to express one self and be seen. Exactly like that is ‘Papicha’s’ leading character the 18-year old Nedjma. She attends an all-girls school in the 1990’s of Algeria, where she studies French. In reality, her big dream is fashion. A night she sneaks out with her friend and goes dancing and lives a fun and normal youth life, but it can’t go on. The civil war is on the way and with it follows stricter and stricter rules on women’s behavior and garments. The movie is Mounia Meddour’s first full length film and it premieres at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. ‘Papicha’ is to premiere in Danish cinemas on the 2nd of July. "
