Big expectations for new sci-fi

" 2020 may well feel like we are living in a science fiction movie, but luckily there is also a real sci-fi narrative on the cinemas program this year. ‘Dune’ is based on Frank Herbert's successful novel of the same name from 1965, and takes place on the desert planet Arrakis, which is also called Dune. The trailer, which was released on September 9, has already been viewed more than 20 million times on Youtube, so there are high expectations for the new film adaptation. The film's main role is played by Timothée Chalamet, who among others is joined by Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem. Dune will have its Danish cinema premiere on 17 December. "

Why do we love sci-fi?

" Sci-fi movies and movies that just take place in another world are popular like never before. Star Wars has gotten a comeback, a sequel to The Quite Place is on the way and the sci-fi novel Dune is being made into a movie. But why do we love sci-fi? A part of the explanation lies in the fact, that science fiction movies are afraid of dealing with big issues. Even though they take place in another universe or another time, they are basically about things that are important in our own society. They pose questions that that sometimes can be hard to treat in more realistic movies. Furthermore, the idea of faraway galaxies or new technologies just work really well on the big screen. Film technology and special effects have become so advanced that most sci-fi movies today are really grand and spectacular. "

New science fiction movie filled with big stars

" Sci-fi fans may have wept for the end of the Star Wars saga, but make room, because a new great science fiction movie is on the way. ‘Dune’ is based of Frank Herbert’s novel by the same name from 1965. The book was made into a movie for the first time in 1984 by David Lynch, but it wasn’t a great hit, so maybe second time’s the charm? The new version has an amazing cast consisting of great stars like Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who has previously made ’Sicario’, ’Arrival’ and ’Blade Runner 2049’, and who has said that directing ‘Dune’ is a lifelong dream of his. The movie will premiere in Danish cinemas on the 17th of December. "
