Stevie is living in Los Angeles during the 1990s but his life is not easy. The 13-year old grows in a troubled domestic atmosphere together with Dabney, his single mother and Ian, his elder brother and fitness maniac. Stevie is often abused by Ian and when he sees a group of skaters, playing around the Motor Avenue Skateshop, the teenager wants to be part of this fellowship. Our boy approaches the gang and befriends Ruben who introduces him to the others: Ray, who hopes to make a professional career as a skater, ”Fuckshit", and "Fourth Grade". The skaters give Stevie the nickname “Sunburn” and accept him as one of them. The group hangs out together often, sometimes getting high or drinking too much. An accident sends our teenager in a hospital. When he wakes up, Stevie finds out that his friends and family are there for him. Moreover, Fourth Grade has something to show them.
