I Wish The World Was A Paper Plane is a 2021 documentary that had its world premiere at CPH:DOX the same year. The documentary takes us through an experiment on empathy and tolerance, leading the young participants from Syria and Denmark to a new understanding of themselves and each other. In the summer of 2019, a group of young people from Syria, Turkey, England, and Denmark meet for a two-week theater workshop in Antalya. Here, they are to perform human rights in a collective performance. But first, they must agree on how the rights should be interpreted—both artistically and politically—and suddenly, it becomes evident that being from Syria or Denmark makes a difference. Even when one is not consciously aware of it. Director Camille Bildsøe attentively observes how empathy and tolerance emerge throughout the process—and, most importantly, how both can make a real difference in the world.
