EditLes gardiennes (2017)

Women and World War I is a topic that need to be further explored by the people of art, including those who have devoted their career to the Seventh Art. Directed and written by Xavier Beauvois, this French drama film pivots around the Pardier farm and the women who have to put double efforts in order to take care of it properly. In 1915 it is not easy to hire men working the field. That is why when Hortense (Nathalie Baye) and her daughter Solange (Laura Smet) need help with the harvest, they hire the young and beautiful Francine (Iris Bry). This doesn’t make a big team since Hortense’s two sons and Solange’s husband are on the battlefields. Although it is a painful story, the farm itself and the people there are portrayed in a beautiful, authentic manner.
