This is a film adaptation of the Goncourt-winning novel “The Great Swindle” (in French: “Au revoir là-haut”) by Pierre Lemaitre. It is November 1918, almost the end of the devastating World War I. The lives of two men who have nothing in common interweave in an unusual way. Edouard Péricourt is a former accountant who saves the life of the artist Albert Maillard in the trenches during an insane assault, ordered by their lieutenant Pradelle. However, the price Albert has to pay for escaping death is too high – his face is irreversibly deformed. After the war the two men, already friends, create an extraordinary scam that puts their live on risk.
