“Shoplifters” is a Japanese drama film that is directed, written and edited by Hirokazu Kore-eda. Director Kore-eda has created a story, influenced by real events that have taken place during the Japanese Recession. The family of Osamu Shibata lives in a poverty somewhere in Tokyo. From time to time Osamu manages to find a job but it doesn’t last long. His wife Nobuyo works for a very low wage and that is why the whole family relies mostly on the grandmother's pension. Left without hope and alternative for decent life, Osamu goes shoplifting for groceries with his son, Shota. One day, father and son discover a homeless girl, Yuri. They take her home, where the rest of the family see that the little girl has been abused. Despite of their financial troubles, they all decide to make Yuri part of their family.
