The Command

On 12 August 2000, the Russian nuclear-powered submarine “Kursk” had its first major naval exercise in the Barents Sea. Unexpectedly, two explosions, first - a smaller one and the second - a devastating one, tore the submarine apart. Tragically, all the 118 personnel on board was killed. What is even more tragical is that there were 23 men who initially survived the incidents but were left to die from their own government. While there were nearby ships that offered their help to the Russian government and Navy, non of the two authorities accepted that help. Due to their inexplicable unwillingness to save their own sailors, the Russian Navy received a sharp international criticism. It is said that this film is in honor of the victims and their families. Despite of their desperate actions, the relatives of the Russian sailors could not find political support to save their loved ones.
